7/26 - Mike Simonelli & the Killa B's Acoustic Reimagining Series

On Saturday July 26 I'll be playing a show at my parent's house in North Kingstown RI as well as playing with the Killa B's Acoustic Re-imagining Series.

I'm going to play the set I played last summer, which is basically a loopy set about skepticism and love - but this time with video projection and such.  It's the longest set I've worked out so far - and I'll be doing an abridged version of it at the Funky Jungle next month.  Here's a little bit of a song called "I'd Like To Write a Story About Love".

The debut of the Killa B's will be kicking off the night.  We'll be playing all our classics and will be exploring some new uncharted territory as well.  

After that I'll be playing a longer set.  I'll post more about it as it gets closer.

Agewood 2014

Two years ago I saw Holiday Mountain play their first show as a trio at a annual summer solstice festival in New York called AgeWood.  It was quite an overwhelming experience as it was the first show they played without me on guitar since I had joined the band over a year prior to that, which was needless to say a little emotional.  But it was simultaneously one of the most fun weekends of my entire life - filled with amazing music, mind-blowingly large fires, drunken dodgeball, giant slip and slides, and jousting...  And that weekend I was inspired by the energy, music, and people at this festival to turn my solo project from just releasing music and video online into a multi-media project that I could play shows with.  The following Fall of 2012 I started playing shows and gradually have been getting it closer to my initial vision of what I want my project to be.  

Having the opportunity to play at AgeWood this summer was indescribable...which is probably why it has taken me nearly two weeks to sit down and attempt to put words to it.  Now that my project is fully up and running for the first time, and seeing things come full circle and being embraced by all the amazing energy and people there was absolutely inspiring.  It affirmed why I'm doing what I'm doing and made the future of my solo project much clearer.  

There's a really awesome compilation record of a lot of the artists who played at AgeWood that you can check out here.  And definitely keep an ear out for some of the folks on here around the New England area as they are pretty rad. 

Since this was the last year at the original location since the festival started in 1976, they are making a commemorative film and book that will include video and photos from all Agewood events - which I can not wait to see.  And it looks like AgeWood is going to happen again next Summer at a new location which will have more space for it to be open to more people who would like to attend, and I'm definitely planning on playing it again next year.  So as those get closer I'll be posting about them for sure.  

Again - so many thanks to John, Tom, Brian and all the folks who make AgeWood happen.  I feel so blessed to be a part of it.  And thank you so much everyone who's been tuning in and supporting me the last couple years.  As long as you keep listening I'll keep playing.  I'll be posting about new music I'm making and some shows I'm playing in the near future...

BOBCATS ARE BACK!

The Bobcats have finished our second record "Bobcats Are Back!".  For those of you who are not in the know about the Bobcats, it's the school band for Beebe (which is one of the schools I work at a few days a week for students with special needs).  You can check out the artwork below which was made by one of the students:

We made a pretty rad music video for the title track using a green screen (or the green wall in the music therapy room) where students picked what they want behind them for it and such.  The CD also has some songs from our Bobcats the Musical which we had a few weeks ago.  The musical was inspired by Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" and is about the changes they wanted to see.

For confidentiality reasons I'm not able to post the music video or songs on here - but if you're a staff at Beebe and want a copy let me know and I can get on to you!

-I've only heard one of their songs (which wasn't even finished yet) since they've become Coaches - but it was super rad.  I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to keep secret...but from what I heard it's much more electric and a lot noisier and gnarlier - but still is in the same spirit as their previous folky stuff.  Can not wait to hear more from them.

-A hip-hop duo based in Rhode Island composed of two of the greatest dudes of all time and former band-mates from back in the day.  The rhymes are on point, and truly funny (kind of reminiscent of MF Doom) and the beats get pretty epic and bring quite a party (with samples ranging from Cream's "White Room" to Sigur Ros's "Saeglopur")

A Rhode Island based duo (Derek Delahunt and Ben Taylor) which mixes folk and electronic music.  If I'm not mistaken this will be their second show - and from the sounds of their album "Parade" which they put out last year, it should be rad.
